The Pre-Owned Sales Manager is responsible for ensuring guest retention and profitability by planning, organizing, and controlling the activities of the Sales department and measuring the performance of salespeople. As well as managing preowned inventory with sales, pricing, merchandising and trades.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties include the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

 

  • Do the right thing!

 

  • Hires, trains, motivates, counsels, and monitors the performance of the Pre-Owned Sales team.

 

  • Directs and schedules the activities of all sales consultants, ensuring proper staffing at all times.

 

  • Works along side the General Manager to forecast goals and objectives for sales, gross, and key expenses on a monthly and annual basis.

 

  • Sets sales and gross objectives for pre-owned sales team, as directed by the General Manager.

 

  • Handles guests concerns that demand management’s attention tactfully, promptly, and with genuine concern for the guest’s problems.

 

  • Ensures that common guest inconveniences, concerns, and misunderstandings are dealt with fairly and quickly.

 

  • Communicates with sales team to ensure that the dealership’s policies and procedures are understood and followed.

 

  • Guides sales consultants in setting their objectives on a short and long-range basis.

 

  • Monitors the sales consultants response rate on sales leads.

 

  • Assists in development of programs of improvement for those sales consultants who are failing to reach their objectives.

 

  • Conducts daily and weekly sales training meetings as directed by the General Manager.

 

  • Provides proper product and training resources for sales consultants on a regular and continuous basis.

 

  • Monitors payroll records of sales consultants.

 

  • Assists sales consultants in closing out deals and funding loans.

 

  • Appraises trade-in vehicles.

 

  • Achieves sales and forecasted goals.

 

  • Assists sales consultants in reaching their goals with deals and working directly with guests.

 

  • Oversees Pre-Owned Car portion of our website.

 

  • In charge of Pre-Owned Car advertising and pricing, with the General Manager’s approval.

 

  • Keeps abreast of auto auction activity, prices, and current market values; attends auctions on a regular basis.

 

  • Determines what vehicles to recondition and which vehicles to sell as wholesale.

 

  • Attends car auctions to sell trade-in vehicles and purchase pre-owned vehicles. 

 

  • Communicates with technicians on a daily basis to verify status on vehicles being reconditioned.

 

  • Coordinates bodywork to be completed after reconditioning has been performed.

 

  • Ensure vehicles are not on the sales lot more than 60 days.

 

  • Informs and provides the sales team detailed reports of current inventory of reconditioned vehicles.

 

  • Maintains record and inventory of all vehicles purchased through auctions and those received through trade-ins.

 

  • Approves all paperwork from auctions and provides proper documentation to the office for purchases with the General Manager’s approval.

 

  • Negotiates prices, discount terms and transportation arrangements for vehicles.

 

  • In charge of scheduling.

 

  • Assists in all other areas of the Sales department and performs other administrative duties, as needed.

 

  • Maintains high ethical standards in all actions. 

 

  • Maintains professional appearance.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Individual should possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent; some college desired;
  • A minimum of 2 years automotive pre-owned Sales experience; A minimum of 2 years of vehicle appraisal experience; proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint);
  • Knowledge of dealership financial statements; basic mathematical concepts (such as add, subtract, divide, multiply, and percentages) and application; automotive finance; equity values and depreciation; and laws that govern retail automotive sales;
  • Ability to coordinate activities with other employees and to oversee the work of subordinates; interview, hire and develop employees; create and perform corrective actions and performance appraisals; use good judgment in challenging situations, or in an emergency; interview, hire and develop employees; create and perform corrective actions and performance appraisals; read and comprehend instructions and information in the English language; learn and understand the federal, state, and local laws which govern retail auto sales; work well with the public; communicate in a professional manner on the phone, internet and in person; use standard office equipment;
  • Must have a valid sales driver’s license and maintain an acceptable and safe driving record.
